We offer confidential help for Veterans, service members, and their families at no cost in a non-medical setting. Our services include counseling for needs such as depression, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and the psychological effects of military sexual trauma (MST). We can also connect you with more support in VA and your community. Basic - Emergency Funds, Basic - Food, Basic - Financial Counseling, Basic - Clothing and Work Clothes, Housing - Homeless Specific, MH - Counseling, MH - PTSD At GDVF, we know you like to honor and appreciate veterans in meaningful ways. To do that, you need to have options and opportunities that keep your interest AND fit your, your family’s, or your organization's busy schedule. Commencing at 11:00 a.m. November 10th at City Hall Plaza, the 11th Hour Ceremony will include: a symbolic wreath laying ceremony accompanied by Taps, a Missing Man Formation military fly over and patriotic comments from local civic and military leaders. Following the ceremonies, the colorful Massing of the Colors will be performed by area High School JROTC cadets. The parade starts at Houston and Young streets, continues up Main Street, across Ervay Street and passes in review in front of City Hall. Saving lives of veterans, their families, and communities with the Columbia Protocol. The Dallas County Veteran Services Office is an advocate agency established to assist veterans and/or their survivors obtain entitled benefits from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and the State of Texas. This program helps veterans, surviving spouses and their families by providing them with one-time rental/mortgage and utility payments to prevent homelessness. *One-time payments for Rent, Mortgage and Utilities to prevent Texas veterans and their families from becoming homeless. *Preference will be given to honorably discharged veterans. City of Dallas (Cooling Stations/Free Cooling Fans) The city of Dallas has a number of cooling stations available around the city.
Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) DART has opened up over a dozen transit centers into cooling locations. Salvation Army The North Texas Area Command of the Salvation Army has activated its heat relief services in locations across the region. The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) recently announced that the state broke the June peak demand record, passing last summer’s record which set 11 new peak demand records. As a result, ERCOT is also asking customers to voluntarily reduce their usage and prevent electric outages by unplugging or turning off any non-critical equipment, closing shades and blinds, and reducing lighting where possible and safe.
